Daktronics to Close Ireland Plant, Cutting Over 100 Jobs

2026-10-20 · via DailyDOOH

Daktronics is closing its manufacturing facility in Ennistymon, north Clare, Ireland, eliminating more than 100 jobs. The move follows the company's decision to exit the part of its business that serves rail, bus and roadway customers outside North America, according to DailyDOOH.

For operators and integrators who rely on Daktronics for transit and roadway display hardware in Europe and other markets outside North America, this signals the company is narrowing its geographic footprint in that segment rather than expanding it. Anyone with existing contracts, service agreements or spare-parts needs tied to Ennistymon-made product should expect to start asking Daktronics directly about support timelines, since the announcement does not detail what happens to existing installations or maintenance contracts during the wind-down.

Daktronics confirmed at the start of September that it had entered a collective redundancy consultation after telling employees their positions were at risk. The closure was formally announced last week.

Cost and timeline

Daktronics said exiting Ireland is expected to generate $13.5 million (about €12 million) in cumulative pretax charges. That includes employee-related costs, facility wind-down expenses, equipment-transfer costs and potential asset impairments.

The company said the closure, once fully implemented, is expected to generate $7.7 million in annualised pretax savings. Daktronics says that would fully offset the implementation costs in under two years, while also supporting what it calls its broader structural cost reduction and margin improvement objectives. The company anticipates the closure will be substantially complete by the middle of 2028, a timeline that gives it roughly a year and a half from this announcement.

Daktronics President and CEO Ramesh Jayaraman said exiting Ireland and aligning manufacturing capacity will help the company manage factory utilisation across its network more effectively, improve workforce productivity, set the stage for further automation, and streamline procurement.

What is not addressed

The announcement does not say which facilities will absorb the rail, bus and roadway manufacturing work that Ennistymon previously handled, nor does it specify how customers in Ireland, the UK or elsewhere in Europe outside North America will be served going forward. It also does not address whether any product lines beyond transit and roadway signage made at the Ennistymon site are affected, or what support arrangements will be offered to current customers during the transition period running through 2028.

Daktronics Pulls Plug In Ireland w/ 100 Job Losses

Daktronics annluonced last week that it will close its manufacturing facility in Ennistymon in north Clare, Ireland with the loss of over 100 jobs.

We understand that this move follows Daktronics’s decision to exit the part of their business which serves rail, bus, and roadway customers outside of North America.

Daktronics President and CEO, Ramesh Jayaraman , told us “exiting Ireland and aligning our manufacturing capacity will help us manage factory utilisation across the network more effectively, improve workforce productivity, set the stage for further automation, and streamline procurement initiatives” .

Wednesday’s announcement followed the company confirming at the start of September that it was entering a collective redundancy consultation after it informed its employees that their positions were at risk.

In its statement, the company said leaving Ireland was expected to result in $13.5 million (€12 million) of cumulative pretax charges, including employee-related costs, facility wind-down and equipment-transfer costs, and also potential asset impairments.

Daktronics said, when fully implemented, the closure was expected to generate $7.7 million of annualised pretax savings which, it said, will fully offset the associated implementation costs in less than two years “while contributing to the company’s broader structural cost reduction and margin improvement objectives” .

Daktronics said the closure is anticipated to be substantially complete by the middle of 2028.
