JCDecaux Adds Two Senior Hires to Grow NZ Airport Screen Business
2026-10-16 · via DailyDOOH
JCDecaux New Zealand has made two senior appointments aimed at growing its airport digital advertising business outside Auckland, the company announced. The moves put dedicated commercial leadership behind the airport screen networks at Christchurch, Queenstown and the Wellington market, at a time when JCDecaux says airport passenger numbers are climbing past pre-pandemic levels.
Kimberly Rennie has been promoted into a newly created role, Airport Business Development Manager, based in Christchurch. According to JCDecaux, she will lead development of advertising inventory across Christchurch and Queenstown Airports and work alongside Auckland-based Airport Business Development Manager Jethro Gardiner, giving the company dedicated airport-focused sales leadership in both the North and South Islands.
Racheal Holmes joins as Account Director in Wellington. JCDecaux says she spent more than a decade at rival out-of-home operator oOh! Media, where she built out that company's Wellington office. In her new role she will handle client engagement in Wellington and support Christchurch business as part of a wider portfolio.
Why it matters for airport screen operators
For anyone managing or selling into airport digital-out-of-home networks, these hires signal that JCDecaux is treating airport terminals as a distinct, higher-priority sales channel rather than folding them into general outdoor or transit accounts. The company's Executive General Manager, Phil Eastwood, said in the release that "airport audiences are growing and advertisers are looking for partners who understand how to make the most of these environments," and framed both appointments as building "capability across both the South Island and Wellington."
The announcement ties the moves to traffic data: JCDecaux cites overseas visitor arrivals reaching 3.67 million in the year to June 2026, up 299,000 year on year, and New Zealand resident traveller arrivals hitting a record 3.09 million, surpassing 2019 levels. That growth is the commercial case for investing in airport-specific sales staff rather than general account managers.
The release does not say whether these appointments accompany any new screen installations, network upgrades or content technology changes at the airports involved. It is purely a personnel move, not a hardware or software rollout. For media buyers and competing operators, though, it marks JCDecaux doubling down on airport inventory in secondary New Zealand cities, an area oOh! Media and other OOH players also compete for, and it pulls expertise directly from that rival firm. The announcement does not mention any changes to screen counts, contract terms, or specific airport partner agreements beyond the existing relationships at Christchurch and Queenstown.
