Mood Media Names Roy Kosuge as New CEO, Succeeding Malcolm McRoberts
2026-10-16 · via DailyDOOH
Mood Media has named Roy Kosuge as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 5, 2026, according to the company. He succeeds Malcolm McRoberts, who led Mood Media since 2021 and will stay on as Senior Advisor and a member of the Board of Directors.
For operators who rely on Mood Media for in-store audio, digital signage and other on-premise media services, a CEO transition at this scale is worth watching. Mood Media positions itself as a global leader in what it calls multisensory on-premise experiences, a category that spans background music, digital signage, and related deployment and content services across thousands of customer locations.
Kosuge joins from SONIFI Solutions, where he served as Chief Operating Officer since 2023. SONIFI is a tech-enabled managed services provider that the release says serves more than one million rooms across hospitality, healthcare and senior living. Before that, Kosuge began his career at Universal Music Group, where he worked on early digital music business models. He holds an A.B. from Harvard University.
Sandy Gill, Managing Director at Vector Capital and a Mood Media board member, said in the announcement that the company was "thrilled to welcome an executive of Roy's caliber," citing his experience scaling businesses with recurring revenue, strong technology, and large numbers of customer locations dependent on consistent uptime. Gill also credited McRoberts with what he called re-establishing Mood Media as a global leader in its category during what he described as an unprecedented period for the company.
Vector Capital, the private equity firm that backs Mood Media, describes itself as a specialist in transformational investments in established technology businesses, with more than 60 platform investments since it was founded in 1997. The firm takes an active role in management strategy at its portfolio companies, which suggests Kosuge's appointment is tied to a broader growth or transformation plan for Mood Media, though the announcement does not spell out specific targets or changes.
The announcement does not say what will happen to Mood Media's product roadmap, pricing, or existing customer contracts under the new leadership. It also does not disclose compensation terms or whether other executive changes will follow. For digital signage operators and resellers who work with Mood Media's platform, the practical impact of the change will likely become clearer once Kosuge sets out his own priorities, which the release does not yet address.
