Ocean Outdoor Launches 166 sqm LED Screen in Leicester Square

Ocean Outdoor has switched on a new large-format LED screen in London's Leicester Square, adding another major out-of-home site to its West End portfolio. The screen, called The Curve, measures 166 square metres on its own and sits alongside two existing portrait LED screens, bringing the combined display area to 240 square metres.
AV Magazine reports that the LED hardware was supplied by ClearLED. Neither company has disclosed pixel pitch, brightness, or resolution figures in the announcement, so operators looking to benchmark the installation against other large-format West End screens will need to wait for further technical detail.
The Curve sits behind curved glazing as part of a new building facade owned by Soho Estates, overlooking the pedestrian route into Leicester Square from Charing Cross Road. Ocean Outdoor says the screen will carry full-motion and static advertising, brand takeovers, special activations and events, and that 3D DeepScreen-style content will be used to mark film premieres and cultural, community and charity occasions.
Part of a growing West End network
The launch extends Ocean Outdoor's cluster of managed screens in central London. The company's West End DOOH portfolio now includes Landsec's Piccadilly Lights, two 50 square metre banners on Regent Street, a large-format screen on Carnaby Street, and both commercial advertising sites in Leicester Square itself, the other being owned by Vue Cinema. That concentration of inventory under one operator gives Ocean leverage when selling takeovers and multi-site campaigns across some of the highest-footfall real estate in the country.
Ocean Outdoor UK CEO Nick Shaw framed the launch around the approach of the holiday advertising period, saying the location gives brands a presence in the heart of one of the world's most famous entertainment districts and calling it a strong stage for Christmas messaging as the company enters what he termed the golden quarter.
The commercial case rests heavily on footfall figures Ocean Outdoor cites for the square: more than 2.5 million visitors weekly, up to 250,000 daily during peak periods, average dwell times of two hours 25 minutes, and 40 million annual entries and exits through the adjacent tube station. The site also hosts more than 50 red carpet film premieres a year, according to the release, which is likely to be a selling point for brands chasing earned media alongside paid impressions.
For operators and media owners elsewhere, the project is another sign that premium London DOOH sites continue to get bigger rather than smaller, with venue owners building screens directly into new architecture rather than retrofitting existing facades. What the announcement does not cover is cost, install timeline, or any detail on the content management and scheduling system driving the three combined screens as a single inventory package.
