Orange Barrel Media, YESCO, SNA Displays Build LED Sign for Comedy Store

2026-08-25 · via DailyDOOH

Orange Barrel Media, YESCO and SNA Displays have completed a large-format LED sign installation at The Comedy Store on Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, according to the companies. For operators who work on out-of-home projects in dense entertainment corridors, the build is a case study in what it takes to get digital signage approved and installed on a heavily regulated, high-visibility street.

The finished structure is a double-faced freestanding pylon roughly 37 feet tall, built around a two-sided LED video display arranged in a V-shape. It is framed by illuminated "scroll" elements meant to echo classic marquee design, along with internally illuminated channel lettering, perforated metal cladding and embossed metal detailing. Orange Barrel Media says the project also included site and landscape work to tie the sign into the surrounding streetscape.

SNA Displays manufactured and supplied the LED hardware using its EMPIRE line at an 8mm pixel pitch. Each of the two faces measures nearly 30 feet tall by more than 16 feet wide, for a combined canvas of approximately 974 square feet and more than 1.4 million pixels across the installation, according to SNA Displays. The company also handled on-site installation management.

An 8mm pitch is a common choice for street-level exterior signage viewed from a moderate distance, rather than the finer pitches used for close-up retail or lobby displays. The announcement does not say what viewing distance the pitch was optimized for, what brightness levels the displays hit, or which content management or ad-serving platform will run on the screens.

The project required coordination among the Shore family, who own The Comedy Store, the City of West Hollywood, YESCO and SNA Displays. Orange Barrel Media, which develops and operates the site, says the process involved extensive planning to manage staging, logistics and construction while limiting disruption on Sunset Boulevard, one of the busier commercial corridors in the country.

Clay Collett, Orange Barrel Media's vice president of West Coast development, said the sign needed to reflect the venue's status as a comedy institution. YESCO chief revenue officer Jeff Young and SNA Displays out-of-home director Pete Simon both framed the project as a continuation of an existing relationship between the three companies.

The release does not disclose project cost, installation timeline, or whether the sign will carry third-party advertising alongside content promoting The Comedy Store itself. For DOOH operators eyeing similar landmark or venue-branded sign opportunities, the approval process with a city government appears to be the bigger hurdle than the hardware itself.

Orange Barrel Media and YESCO have completed a new large-scale signage installation for The Comedy Store, located along the iconic Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California. The project introduces a bold new visual landmark designed to enhance the venue’s visibility while complementing the historic identity and architectural character of one of comedy’s most recognizable stages.

Orange Barrel Media developed the project through a close collaboration among the Shore family, the City of West Hollywood, YESCO and SNA Displays , requiring extensive coordination due to its prominent location along one of the country’s busiest entertainment corridors.

The installation was carefully planned to navigate complex staging, logistics and construction requirements while minimizing disruption along Sunset Boulevard.

Clay Collett , vice president of West Coast development for Orange Barrel Media told us “The Comedy Store is an institution on the Sunset Strip, and this sign needed to reflect that,” said “Working closely with the Shore family, the City of West Hollywood and our partners at YESCO and SNA Displays, we were able to deliver something that honors the venue’s legacy while setting a new standard for what a sign on this corridor can be.”

The completed installation at The Comedy Store features a double-faced freestanding pylon sign incorporating a two-sided LED video display arranged in a distinctive V-shape and framed by illuminated decorative “scroll” elements inspired by classic marquee design. The approximately 37-foot-tall structure further incorporates internally illuminated channel lettering, custom perforated metal cladding and embossed metal detailing to create a dynamic visual presence day and night.

“The Comedy Store has long been a part of the visual and cultural fabric of the Sunset Strip, so we felt a true sense of responsibility to create something that felt both authentic and visually captivating,” said Jeff Young , chief revenue officer, YESCO.

The project also included site improvements and landscape enhancements intended to integrate the installation into the surrounding streetscape while preserving the visual identity of the famed comedy club. Design concepts for the project emphasized a balance between contemporary digital display technology and the nostalgic character associated with the Sunset Strip’s entertainment legacy.

“After a long relationship with YESCO and Orange Barrel Media, we’re delighted to be working with both again to improve such an iconic Hollywood staple,” added Pete Simon , director of out-of-home, SNA Displays.

Manufactured and supplied by SNA Displays, the exterior LED display utilizes the company’s EMPIRE™ technology with an 8mm pixel pitch and processes more than 1.4 million pixels across the installation. Each display measures nearly 30 feet tall by more than 16 feet wide, totaling approximately 974 square feet of digital canvas. SNA Displays also provided on-site installation management and technical expertise to help ensure a smooth and efficient installation process.
