OUTFRONT CEO Nick Brien Named OAAA Board Chairman
2026-10-16 · via DailyDOOH
The Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA) has named Nick Brien, CEO of OUTFRONT, as the new chairman of its board of directors, according to the association's announcement. Brien succeeds Scott Wells, former CEO of Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, and will complete the remainder of Wells' term, which runs through May 2027.
For operators and vendors in the digital signage and DOOH space, board leadership changes at OAAA matter because the association sets much of the policy and measurement agenda that shapes how out of home, including digital out of home, gets bought, sold and standardized across the US market. OUTFRONT is one of the larger players in digital out-of-home media, running digital billboards, transit displays and other screen networks, so its CEO taking the chair puts someone with direct operational stakes in DOOH at the top of the trade group.
Anna Bager, president and CEO of OAAA, said in a statement that Brien brings experience across the advertising industry and understands the opportunity ahead for out of home. She credited Wells, who chaired the board since March 2023 and had served on it since 2015, with strengthening OAAA's advocacy and expanding engagement with advertisers and agencies during his tenure.
Brien has held CEO roles at Dentsu, McCann Worldgroup, IPG Mediabrands and Amobee before joining OUTFRONT, according to the release. In his own statement, he said he wants to focus on strengthening trust in the out-of-home medium, accelerating its digital transformation and expanding measurement capabilities that give marketers confidence in their spending.
What this means for the industry
The announcement frames measurement, technology and digital transformation as priorities for Brien's tenure, which aligns with ongoing industry conversations about standardizing audience measurement across digital out-of-home networks and tying OOH more tightly into omnichannel media planning. The release does not detail specific initiatives Brien plans to pursue or give a timeline beyond his term running through 2027.
For digital signage and DOOH operators, the practical impact of a board chairmanship like this tends to show up indirectly, through the standards, research priorities and advocacy positions OAAA adopts over the coming months rather than through any immediate operational change. Brien's background running media and marketing technology companies, combined with his current seat atop one of the larger digital OOH operators, suggests measurement and digital standards will likely stay near the top of the association's agenda.
