Praevar Adds E Ink Kaleido 3 E-Paper and High-Brightness LED to Outdoor Line

Canadian outdoor display maker Praevar has added two new technologies to its Podium Series, bringing the lineup to four display types for operators running digital-out-of-home and public information networks outdoors. The additions are an e-paper display built on E Ink Kaleido 3 and a high-brightness LED model, joining the existing LCD and low-power high-brightness LCD options.
For operators managing outdoor networks, the headline is power consumption. Praevar says the new Podium Eluminex E-Poster draws about one-tenth the power of conventional digital signage, with typical consumption of 28 watts with its front light off and 64 watts with it on. That is a meaningful difference for anyone running displays on solar, battery backup, or metered power in remote or municipal locations, where electricity costs and grid access often drive the choice of technology.
The e-paper display uses E Ink's Kaleido 3 color technology, a reflective panel that relies on ambient light rather than a backlight, which Praevar says keeps it readable in direct sunlight. It supports 13.9 million colors at a resolution of 5,120 by 2,880 pixels and has a matte, paper-like finish. Praevar is pitching it at transit information, municipal signage, and campus deployments where low power draw and minimal light emission matter more than video or dynamic content. The tradeoff with e-paper, as with other Kaleido-based signage on the market, is that it is suited to static or slow-refresh content rather than full-motion advertising.
On the other end of the range, the new Podium LED model is aimed at retail media, DOOH, transportation and smart city deployments that need brightness and refresh performance. Praevar lists more than 4,000 nits of brightness, a 7,680Hz refresh rate, and a 160-degree viewing angle, using flip-chip COB/MIP technology that the company says improves durability. It is available in multiple pixel pitches, though the announcement does not specify which.
All four display types, including the existing Podium DS LCD range (65-, 75- and 86-inch portrait formats) and the high-brightness low-power LCD model, share the same enclosure platform, rated for continuous operation from -30°C to 50°C. That shared housing is the basis for Praevar's Podium Midlife Extension Program, which lets operators swap in newer LCD, LED or e-paper technology into an existing enclosure rather than replacing the whole unit.
For networks with units already in the field, that upgrade path could lower the cost of refreshing aging outdoor signage and cut down on electronic waste, since the enclosure and mounting infrastructure stay in place. The announcement does not give pricing, availability dates, or details on which pixel pitches the LED model will ship in.

Praevar's latest outdoor display options target lower energy consumption, improved sunlight readability and longer equipment lifespans for DooH and public information networks.
Canadian outdoor display manufacturer Praevar has expanded its Podium Series with two new technologies, including an e-paper display powered by E Ink Kaleido 3 and a high-brightness LED model.
The additions bring the company’s outdoor display lineup to four technologies, alongside its existing LCD and high-brightness, low-power LCD models. All four use the same rugged enclosure platform, designed for continuous operation in temperatures ranging from -30°C to +50°C.
The new Podium Eluminex E-Poster uses E Ink Kaleido 3 color e-paper technology, offering a reflective display that stays readable in direct sunlight without the continuous backlighting conventional LCD screens require.
According to Praevar, the display uses about one-tenth the power of traditional digital signage, with typical consumption of 28 watts when the integrated front light is off and 64 watts when illuminated.
The eposter supports 13.9 million colors and a 5,120 by 2,880-pixel resolution. Its matte, paper-like appearance makes it well suited to transit information, municipal signage, campuses, and other public spaces where low energy consumption and limited light emissions matter.
Unlike conventional digital displays, e-paper uses little power to display a static image, though the front light increases energy consumption when in use.
Praevar has also introduced a Podium LED model delivering more than 4,000 nits of brightness, a 7,680Hz refresh rate, and a 160-degree viewing angle.
The display uses flip-chip COB/MIP technology for improved durability and is available in multiple pixel pitches for retail media, DooH, transportation and smart city installations.
The existing Podium DS LCD range remains available in 65-, 75-, and 86-inch portrait formats, while the company’s high-brightness LCD model uses up to 35% less power than conventional high-brightness outdoor displays.
Praevar is also extending its Podium Midlife Extension Program, allowing operators to replace existing display technology with newer LCD, LED or e-paper options while retaining the original enclosure.
The approach could help operators reduce replacement costs and electronic waste while upgrading existing outdoor signage networks.
