TVC Technology Solutions has installed a digital signage and AV distribution network at Mega City Slough, an £11m entertainment complex that opened earlier this month, according to the company. The project covers three floors of arcade games, bowling, VR, AR darts, laser tag, batting cages, pool and private karaoke rooms, and it illustrates how signage buyers are increasingly asked to fit into a wider connected building rather than stand alone.

The Bolton-based integrator installed 65-inch, 55-inch and 43-inch iiyama ProLite commercial displays in bars and customer-facing areas for food and beverage promotions, attraction packages and venue messaging. TVC says these signage screens run independently of the entertainment and TV content, so operators can push promotional updates centrally without interrupting live sport or attraction feeds elsewhere in the building. That separation of signage content from live TV and gaming content is the kind of detail operators managing mixed-use venues will want to note, since it avoids the common problem of promotional messaging fighting for the same distribution path as live feeds.

Alongside the signage, LG hospitality televisions were deployed across bars, seating areas and activity zones for live sport and attraction information, with content either synchronised venue-wide or assigned by area.

Distribution and audio

The backbone of the system is a WyreStorm NXT AV-over-IP platform, which routes television and media sources to individual displays or shares them across the venue. TVC says extra source capacity was built in so Mega City can add content streams or new attractions later without reworking the infrastructure, a claim worth testing over time rather than taking at face value, but one that speaks to a common ask from multi-attraction venues that expect to keep changing their offer.

Seven private karaoke rooms each get a 55-inch Mitchell & Brown screen, the Singa Karaoke platform, a dedicated audio system and microphones, integrated into the same network so background music, paging and announcements can reach those rooms when needed.

A zoned audio system covers the bowling lanes, arcade, bars, social spaces and laser tag, using commercial loudspeakers, subwoofers and centralised processing so each area keeps its own atmosphere while staying connected to venue-wide paging. Local wall controllers give staff control over volume and source selection without needing to touch a central system.

Mat Brown, cofounder and director of TVC, said the venue needed everything to feel connected for customers and staff despite the range of attractions on offer. The announcement does not detail the content management software used to manage the signage layer, nor does it give a timeline for the additional source capacity being brought online.

The company has provided Mega City Slough, which opened earlier this month, with digital signage, hospitality television, zoned audio, AV distribution and private karaoke room solutions.

TVC Technology Solutions has provided a range of AV solutions for a new £11m entertainment complex in the UK.

The Bolton-based company was brought in to support Mega City Slough, which opened earlier this month, with integrated digital signage, hospitality television, zoned audio, AV distribution and private karaoke experiences across all three floors.

Bringing together arcade games, 10-pin bowling, virtual reality, augmented reality darts, laser tag, batting cages, pool and private karaoke rooms under one roof, Mega City required more than a collection of standalone screens and speakers.

The brief was to provide a connected technology infrastructure capable of supporting diverse attractions while delivering a consistent customer experience throughout the building’s three floors.

TVC was appointed to design and deliver a fully integrated solution that would allow content, audio and entertainment systems to operate seamlessly across multiple zones.

A platform was required that would be simple for employees to manage, while providing the scalability needed to support future developments within the Mega City concept.

To strengthen customer communication and promotional activity throughout the venue, TVC installed 65″, 55″and 43″ iiyama ProLite commercial signage displays across the bars and key customer-facing areas.

The displays provide a high-impact platform dedicated to food and beverage promotions, attraction packages, event information and venue messaging. Operating independently from the entertainment screens, the content can be updated centrally without interrupting live television or attraction-related content.

Alongside the signage network, TVC deployed LG hospitality televisions throughout the venue. The displays support live sport, entertainment and attraction information in the bars, seating areas, activity zones and communal spaces.

By allowing the content to be synchronised across the venue or assigned by area, the system gives employees the flexibility to tailor the customer experience throughout the day.

At the heart of the installation is a WyreStorm NXT AV-over-IP distribution platform, which enables television and media sources to be routed to individual displays or shared across the entire venue.

Additional source capacity has also been incorporated, allowing Mega City to introduce new content streams and entertainment experiences without requiring significant infrastructure changes.

Seven private karaoke rooms each feature a 55″ Mitchell & Brown screen, Singa Karaoke platform, professional audio system and dedicated microphones. The rooms are fully integrated into the wider AV infrastructure, allowing background music, paging and venue announcements to be delivered when required.

TVC also installed a fully zoned audio solution spanning the bowling lanes, arcade areas, bars, social spaces and laser tag. Using a combination of commercial loudspeakers, subwoofers and centralised processing, each area can maintain its own atmosphere while remaining connected to the wider venue communications network.

Local wall controllers and paging stations provide employees with straightforward control over volume levels and source selection.

Mat Brown, cofounder and director of TVC Technology Solutions, says: “Mega City is exactly the type of project where integrated AV can make a significant impact. The venue brings together a huge variety of attractions – each with its own requirements – but everything needs to feel connected for both customers and staff alike.

“By bringing digital signage, hospitality displays, audio, distribution and karaoke together within one managed platform, we’ve created a solution that delivers a great customer experience today, while providing the flexibility to support future growth.”
