Vistar Media Names Japan Country Manager, Expands APAC OOH Push
2026-09-11 · via DailyDOOH
Vistar Media has hired Yosuke Maekawa as country manager for Japan, part of what the company describes as a significant investment in building a dedicated local team in the market. Vistar is a programmatic out-of-home ad tech company and part of T-Mobile Advertising Solutions, and this move signals its intent to compete more directly for Japanese digital OOH inventory and ad spend.
According to the announcement, Maekawa brings more than two decades of experience in digital media, ad tech and business development, with previous leadership roles at Amazon, Expedia Group, PubMatic and comScore. He will run Vistar's growth strategy and operations in Japan. Vistar has also appointed Akinori Inoue as Supply Partnerships Manager for Japan, tasked with expanding relationships with publishers and media owners in the country.
For operators and media owners running digital screens in Japan, this matters because Vistar's pitch is full-stack programmatic infrastructure: a DSP, an SSP, an ad server, a player, a device management system and OOH planning software, according to the release. If Vistar builds out local supply partnerships as planned, media owners running digital signage networks in Japan may get another route to programmatic demand, alongside existing ad tech players already active in the market.
Japan's appeal here is well established. The company points to a highly developed transit media ecosystem and a large base of premium digital inventory, arguing the market is ripe for further programmatic growth. That's consistent with Vistar's broader Asia-Pacific expansion strategy, of which this hire is described as a key part.
What the announcement does not say is any detail on which specific media owners or screen networks in Japan Vistar has already signed, what its device management system will support in terms of hardware compatibility, or a timeline for when local supply and demand partnerships will be operational. There are also no figures given for the scale of the investment.
Michael Provenzano, Vistar's co-founder and CEO, is quoted saying the company sees an opportunity to help accelerate growth in the market by combining local expertise with Vistar's existing global marketplace and technology. Maekawa, in his own comment, described Japan as home to some of the world's most sophisticated OOH media environments and said he wants to bring Vistar's marketplace and technology to advertisers and media owners in the country.
For screen operators outside Japan, the news is mostly a signal of where the big DOOH ad tech platforms are pointing their expansion budgets next, and a reminder that programmatic sales infrastructure keeps consolidating around a small number of global platforms.
